The Cottage

The cottage is situated in a secluded location approached from a private track off the main road and has a generous parking area to the side. Accommodation is all on one floor, but you should note that there is a step up from the conservatory to the main living area of the house.  The conservatory overlooks Loch Snizort Beag, the Quiraing hills, and, to the South-East, more distant views of the Isle of Raasay.

The bright kitchen / dining area has all the modern appliances and accessories that you’d expect in a holiday home with views of the loch on two sides. There is open access to the comfortable sitting room which has a double sofa and sofa-bed, Free-Sat TV, DVD, open fire, a large window with views out to the garden and another smaller window with further views of the Loch and beyond.

The bathroom has a modern shower, separate bath, w/c, hand basin, heated towel rail and heated mirror with shaver/electric toothbrush charging facility.  The main bedroom has a king sized double bed, built in wardrobe, dressing table and views of … well, you know by now. The second bedroom has twin beds and a further built in wardrobe with views out to the front garden.  A cot-bed for infants is available.

Included in the price is free Wi-Fi, electric heating and a start-up pack for the open fire.

The Garden

The garden to the rear is largely natural grass and loch-side shrubs, sloping down towards the loch, which is accessible via a gate. Please note that to the proximity of the loch, children should be supervised. Some garden seating and a picnic table is provided for your relaxation.  The front of the house offers a more sheltered, mature garden, laid to lawn, with a small seating area.

The Area

Woodlands Cottage is situated in the area of Skeabost Bridge / Glen Bernisdale.  From the rear garden of the cottage, to your right, you will see the grounds of the Skeabost Country House Hotel which provides afternoon / evening / bar meals, has a golf course and owns the rights to fishing on the river Snizort.  The Hotel is about a 15 minute walk from Woodlands Cottage, along tracks which runs broadly parallel to the Loch.

The main town on the island, Portree, is six miles away to the South (turn left out of the drive) – about a ten minute drive away.  Portree has all the facilities you’d expect in a main island town (Shops, Restaurants, Cafes, Doctor, Dentist, Vet and so on …) From Portree you can access many of the most beautiful parts of the island – The Old Man of Storr, Quiraing ridges and the village of Staffin to the North are all about 20 minutes or less from Portree on the Trotternish ridge.

Should you turn right out of the drive you can access the village of Dunvegan with its castle and nearby Coral Beach within 25 minutes or so, and further west to the beautiful vistas near Neist Point lighthouse.  Further afield, the Cuilin mountains, Glenbrittle and beyond can be accessed from the roads South of Portree. Further details can be seen in the Activities section of this website. In short, Woodlands Cottage is ideally situated for your holiday on Skye.
